Physics of Sports Video
Project Outline
For this project, we had to find out the physics behind a sports action. Our group decided on a volleyball spike.
In the video, we have to explain the physics and help the viewer have a better understanding of the sport action.
The first day we talked to each other about what we should do. Once we decided that we would do a volleyball spike, we started to think of the video. We all contributed in making the outline of the video. Using strips of paper, we planned out how we were going to do the video. Bella got the video footage and music. She filmed the movements during her volleyball practice. Bella o did the editing on the video. I was given the job of finding out the physics part of the video. Elise did the calculations. We all contributed in recording the voiceover.

Reflections
Since most of the project was done on one computer, not everyone could get involved. Bella had the most experience in making videos, so she brought her computer and did most of the editing. The sports action was a volleyball spike and Bella was the only one who played volleyball so she had to film the spike. A pit was that it was a very hard project for all of us to get involved. Another was that Bella had to do most of the work. A peak was that we cooperated and worked well. Another peak was that our time management wasn't as bad as last project. I wish all of us could get more involved in the making of the video. We could have had all four of us helping to edit.
We all got along pretty well. There was rarely any arguments between us. It was very fun watching and making the video. We communicated really well most of the time. All in all, I thought this group was very successful.

Physics Concepts
Force: It is a push or pull. Force is calculated by multiplying mass by acceleration. Bella exerts a force of 1,340.88 Newtons when she jumps on the ground.
Momentum: Momentum is found by multiplying the mass by the velocity. The momentum from Bella's arm gives Bella more velocity.
Velocity: Velocity is speed together with the direction of motion. Velocity is calculated by dividing distance by time. The velocity of the ball when Bella hits is 10.45 m/s (meters per second) or 23.4 mph (miles per hour)
